Limited and VOD Releases: Animal Magnetism

June 1st, 2018

American Animals

It is a slow week, so slow that I’m bending the rules when it comes to what films appear on this list. If I used the ten review limit, there would only be a handful of films. Of these films, only American Animals and Breath are earning reviews that are good enough for limited release. That said, there are also a few that should be worth a VOD rental, like Discreet and Social Animals. More...

Featured Blu-ray / DVD Review: Thor: The Dark World

February 17th, 2014

Thor came out in 2011 and cost $150 million to make. However, it barely made a profit. In fact, had it been a stand-alone movie, it would have very likely lost money. Had it not been for The Avengers boosting the home market numbers, it might have lost money. On the other hand, Thor: The Dark World cost $170 million to make and pulled in 40% more at the worldwide box office. Is it also 40% better? Or did it benefit from the big picture The Avengers movie universe has pulled together? More...

Featured TV on DVD Review: Dexter: Season Seven

Season five shook things up, as the main guest star wasn't the big bad for the season. As a result, expectations for season six were incredibly high. The season didn't live up to them. In fact, I thought season six was the weakest season in the show's run so far. The only part that really worked was the cliffhanger finale. Because of this, expectations for season seven are mixed. Will the show live up to the cliffhanger ending? Or is the show on a downward slope in terms of quality? More...
