Home Market is Borat Great success! Is Nice!

2007-03-17

There was only three new releases to chart on the home market this week; however, they included the top rental this week, Borat. While it was absolutely no surprise that the film opened in first place, it was a bit of a surprise that it only managed $9.18 million while doing so.

DVD Releases for March 6, 2007

2007-03-05

It's a good week for DVD releases, with several that are worth picking up. On the other hand, while my personal shopping list contains quite a number of DVDs, there wasn't much competition for the DVD Pick of the Week. A few came close, including Borat - Buy from Amazon and South Park - The Complete Ninth Season - Buy from Amazon, but the winner was Stargate Atlantis - The Complete Second Season - Buy from Amazon.

Updated - Bollywood Breaks Through on the Per Theater Chart

2007-01-30

Mafioso narrowly topped the Per Theater Chart this weekend in second weekend of re-release with an average of $11,118. Salaam-e-Ishq - A Tribute to Love was right behind it, with just under $1 million in 86 theaters for an average of $11,035. Early reports actually had Salaam-e-Ishq topping the chart, but its total gross to date includes $60,000 earned on Thursday. Without that money, it wasn't quite able to hold on to top spot. The only other film to top $10,000 was Breaking and Entering with an average of $10,580 in two theaters.

Bobby's the Best on Per Theater Chart

2006-11-21

Bobby finished on top of the Per Theater Chart this weekend after taking in nearly $70,000 in two theaters for an average of $34,520. That was more than $10,000 above its nearest competition, Volver, which pulled in an average of $24,095 during its third week of release. For Your Consideration placed third on the charts with an average of $16,174, which is a really good start, but still well below the average opening for Christopher Guest's previous mockumentaries. In fourth was the first of two wide release to top $10,000 as Casino Royale scored a very impressive $11,891 in 3,434 theaters. The re-release of Two or Three Things I Know About Her earned $11,214 in its lone theater, while Flannel Pajamas brought in $11,069, also in one theater. Finally we have the overall box office champ, Happy Feet, with an average of $10,918.

Movie Website Updates for November 11 - November 17, 2006

2006-11-18

A lot of trailers on this week's list of websites. Not only were there a lot of site with just trailers, there were a few trailers without sites. On the other hand, there were also a few contenders for the Weekly Website Award. In the end it was The Children of Men - Official Site that took home that prestigious award.

Limited Releases - This Is Award Season?

2006-11-17

Looking at this particular weekend weeks back, I noticed three films that seemed destined for mainstream success as well as critical glory: Bobby, Fast Food Nation, and For Your Consideration. However, not one managed to live up to expectations with the critics and that doesn't bode very well for the weekend as a whole.

Movie Website Updates for November 4 - November 10, 2006

2006-11-11

There was a clear winner amongst this week's batch of websites as Stranger than Fiction - Official Site took home the Weekly Website Award.

Movie Website Updates for September 30 - October 6, 2006

2006-10-07

Good week for websites, but most were smaller updates or new sites with just a few features. Two sites, Happy Feet - Official Site and The Prestige - Official Site, stood out above the crowd, but both will need a few more update to take home the Weekly Website Award.
