DVD Releases for April 15, 2008

2008-04-14

Not a particularly strong week for DVD releases this week. Sure, there are a few worth picking up, but there were far more that felt like filler. In fact, there was only one contender for DVD Pick of the Week, Juno. I would certainly recommend the Blu-ray version over either DVD edition.

No One Tops Old Men on Per Theater Chart

2007-11-13

No Country for Old Men was the latest Oscar hopeful to hit theaters, and while so many have failed to live up to expectations, this was not the case here. Despite opening in 28 theaters, it pulled in more than $1 million over the weekend and led the per theater chart with an average of $43,798. The only other film to come close was Holly with an opening of $32,406 in one theater. The overall box office leader, Why Did I Get Married? opened with an average of $10,618.

Movie Website Updates for October 7, 2007 - October 13, 2007

2007-10-14

Quite a few full sites launched this week, but as is the case most times, there were pretty Spartan at the moment and it will take a few more updates before we can tell if they are award-worthy or not. That said, it was a site for a movie that opens this week, Lars and the Real Girl - Official Site, that won the top prize as it finished adding all the material marked coming soon this week.

Using the Clues to Deduce the Real Contenders

2007-10-12

An even dozen films on this week's list, including the A Canadian film Weirdsville, which doesn't open in the United States until next week, or it may of opened there last week, there seems to be some confusion on the matter. However, the best bet this week is Lars and the Real Girl, which could expand wide over the coming weeks.

Movie Website Updates for September 30 - October 6, 2007

2007-10-06

We are starting to get full websites for some of the massive holiday season releases, which should mean there will be at least one award worthy website on each week's list. As for this week, there were a few that have potential assuming the sections marked coming soon live up to the rest of the site. But just one site, The Seeker: The Dark is Rising - Official Site, that was worthy of the Weekly Website Award.

Contest - The Real Deal

2007-10-05

There's not a single film opening at saturation levels next Friday. In fact, We Own the Night might be the only film to crack 2,000 theaters and because of this, it is this week's target film. To win one must simply predict the box office opening for We Own the Night. Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win The Film Crew - Hollywood After Dark. Meanwhile, whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will win The Film Crew - Killers from Space. 2007 Preview: October

2007-10-01

October means one thing: Free candy. ... Oh yeah, and the unofficial start of Award Season. And Halloween brings us a few horror films as well. Unfortunately, this year October is rather weak, with no film looking like a strong contender for $100 million and most of the films with early Oscar buzz having performed poorly with the critics. The only good news is last October was also weak at the box office, meaning there's at least a reasonable shot at 2007 maintaining its box office lead over 2006.
