2007-01-20

There were plenty of new releases this week, but all but two missed the top 10. However, those two DVDs finished one-two on the charts. Crank topped The Illusionist $6.09 million to $5.59 million.

DVD Releases for January 9, 2007

2007-01-08

It's a strange week for DVD releases. On the one hand, there's not a big selection of releases coming out this week. On the other hand, half the ones on this list are worth adding to your DVD collection. Back to the original hand, none are really worthy of DVD Pick of the Week. Idiocracy - Buy from Amazon is a good movie, but has no where near the extras needed. The Illusionist - Buy from Amazon comes close but still falls just short. MI-5 - Volume 4 - Buy from Amazon is a great package, but at a price that will scare off casual fans. In the end, while I rated a lot of DVDs as buys, none are worth the DVD Pick of the Week.

While the person who comes the closest to the film's opening 3-day weekend (Friday to Sunday, without going under, will win a signed copy of Purgatory House on DVD, a signed copy of the poster, and a copy of Broken Bridges on DVD. Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay!

2006-09-08

After a very busy month, the number of site on this week's list dropped off dramatically. The Guardian - Official Site came the closest, but it will have to wait till more features are added for that honor.

Nearly a dozen limited releases hit theatres this week, including several on Wednesday. The list includes a handful of documentaries and what looked like a possible Oscar contender. However, none look poised to reach far beyond their limited release beginnings.
