News Stories About Thr3e

Good Night on the Home Market

2007-05-05

New releases again dominated the rental charts as there were able to capture the top three spots, in fact, all three of these new releases were able to score more than last week's top film was able to. Leading the way was Night at the Museum with $11.56 million; this quite low compared to its theatrical box office of just over $250 million, but the younger target demographic explains this.

DVD Releases for April 24, 2007

2007-04-24

It's a busy week for DVD releases, but the signal to noise ratio is a little high, and that made it harder to find the DVDs that were truly worthy of attention. (And even then, I went off track a couple of times.) As for the DVD Pick of the Week, there is really only one choice for me, The Queen - Buy from Amazon. However, I'm also giving that honor to Burning Annie - Buy from Amazon, which would have won a few weeks ago if I had got the right information on the quality of the DVD.

Per Theater Chart is Made

2007-01-24

Just the one film in the $10,000 Club this weekend, but it was a real stand up movie, if you know what I mean. The re-release of Mafioso took in nearly $30,000 in 2 theatres for an average of $14,983.

Labyrinth Leads as Holdovers Dominate Per Theater Chart

2007-01-09

Pan's Labyrinth saw its theater count more than double this past weekend, but it was still able to win the race on the Per Theater Chart with $17,359 in 44 venues. Letters from Iwo Jima climbed to second place with $15,859, which represents a less than 10% drop-off from the weekend before. Notes of a Scandal showed amazingly strong resilience on the chart, as it dipped just 36% to $12,100, this despite quadrupling its theater count. Two other films just managed to top $10,000: Dreamgirls with $10,168 and Comedy of Power with $10,061.

Night Lasts Three Weeks

2007-01-09

There were a couple of pleasant surprises this week, including a generally stronger than expected performance by the holdovers. Better than expected still resulted in an 18% drop-off from last weekend to $133 million, but that's 3.5% better than 2006's start.

Movie Website Updates for December 30 - January 5, 2007

2007-01-06

Big list as I try to catch up after the holidays. I think I caught all the updates. Not only are there a lot of sites on this week's list, several of them are potential award winners with the best of the best being Smokin' Aces - Official Site.

New Year Hangover

2007-01-05

The first weekend of the year is not known for producing many hits. In fact, perhaps only the first weekend after Labor Day is worse. This year is no exception: the three wide releases are not earning strong reviews, only one new film is able to crack 2,000 theaters, and none of them have a real shot at first place.
