News Stories About Brideshead Revisited

DVD Releases for January 27, 2009 - Part I

2009-01-27

One of the longest lists in a while this week, but there's a lack of quality at the top. There are a number that are of interest, like Zodiac on Blu-ray, The Bourne Trilogy on Blu-ray, and others, none rise to the level of DVD Pick of the Week. The list was long enough that it has to be split up, and the second part can be found here.

DVD Releases for January 13, 2009

2009-01-13

It's still early in the year and people are dealing with the bills from their Christmas shopping, which means they don't have as much disposable income. This reduces the demand for DVDs, and studios are hesitant to put out marquee releases. Looking at this week's selection, you can really tell. At the top of the list, Supercop - 2-Disc Special Edition is probably the best bet, but Appaloosa on either DVD or Blu-ray is up there as well.

Men and Women Rise to the Top of the Per Theater Chart

2008-08-26

Only two films topped $10,000 on the per theater chart, but that was two more than last week. The number one film was Momma's Man, which earned $11,072 in one theater, while The Girl Cut in Two saw double-digit growth $21,193in two theaters for an average of $10,597.

Summer Slumps on the Per Theater Chart

2008-08-19

Summer is officially over as no movie earned more than $10,000 on the per theater charts. The Girl Cut in Two and Elegy came close with averages of $9,329 and $9,090 respectively.

This week's round of new casting information contains updates for Chilled in Miami, Dorian Gray, Surfer Dude, and more!

Summer Starts to Wind Down on the Per Theater Chart

2008-08-12

Elegy topped the charts with more than $100,000 in 6 theaters for an average of $17,361. The only other film to top $10,000 was Beautiful Losers, which barely crossed that milestone with $10,607 in one theater.

Siberia Heats Up on the Per Theater Chart

2008-08-05

It took three weeks, but Transsiberian landed on top of the per theater chart with an estimated $27,000 in just 2 theaters for an average of $13,500, which was a little more than it earned last week. Also in limited release, Man on Wire saw its overall number drop by a small amount despite doubling its theater count to 4, which resulted in its average falling to $12,119. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor opened with an average of $10,760 in 3,760 theaters. Frozen River barely reached the $10,000 mark with an average of $10,033 in 7 theaters, although it wasn't as close as The Dark Knight was, as that film earned an average of $10,001.

Wire Towers Higher than Bat

2008-07-29

Man on Wire topped the per theater chart this week by pulling in an impressive average of $25,696 in two theaters. This was ahead of the overall box office leader, The Dark Knight, which earned an average of $17,216 in more than 4,000 theaters. Transsiberian also repeated in the $10,000 club, down roughly 23% to $13,280. Brideshead Revisited opened in 22 theaters, which is a lot of a limited release, but still managed an average of $10,291 during its opening weekend, which bodes well for its prospects at expansion. The final film to reach $10,000 did so by the narrowest of narrow margins as Step Brothers topped that milestone by less than 24 cents.

Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of July 25, 2008

2008-07-26

Summer is starting to wind down and there's not potential monster hits opening this week, which hurt this week's list at the top. However, while there were no groundbreaking sites this week, Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer's Official Site contained a 14-part behind the scenes video blog that is better than most DVDs have. This was enough to give the film the Weekly Website Award.

The Myth of the Limited Release

2008-07-25

Nearly a dozen limited releases this week, although two of those are Canadian, so they don't count. (Joke.) The film with the best shot at mainstream success is Brideshead Revisted, but given this year's track record, I am hesitant to predict what its chances are to buck the trend.
