Another busy week, but one that feels loaded with quantity and low on quality. None of the first run releases stand out and there's precious little else to make up. That's not to say there are no DVDs worth buying, as there are. My recommended list includes Burn Notice - Season One - Buy from Amazon, Classe Tous Risques - Criterion Collection - Buy from Amazon, Popeye the Sailor - 1938-1940 - Volume 2 - Buy from Amazon, and Men in Black - Special Edition - Blu-ray - Buy from Amazon, to name more than a few. However, none struck me as qualifiers for DVD Pick of the Week.

No film was able to top $10,000 on the per theater chart this past weekend. The Visitor came the closest with an average of $9,250 in 18 theaters.

There were just two films to reach the $10,000 plateau this week, Chapter 27 and The Unforeseen. The former topped the latter, but it was close at $13,910 to $12,877.

There was not one, not two, not three, but six films that landed in the $10,000 club on the per theater chart over the weekend (not counting the three IMAX films that did the same). Topping the charts was the re-release of Contempt, again, which earned $13,946 in one theater, which was down less than 6% from last weekend. Planet B-Boy opened in second place with $13,889, missing first place on the per theater chart by a microscopic $57. Boarding Gate had a bit of separation between the rest of the films earning $11,440 in its one theater. On the other hand, Under the Same Moon, Love Songs, and Meet the Browns were all within a few hundred dollars of each other with per theater averages of $10,414, $10,244, and $10,011.

Easter Weekend is not regarded as a long weekend and expectations were not unreasonably high. However, a few films missed expectations and this left the box office on the south side of predictions. Overall, films earned $113 million over the weekend, which was down 6% from last weekend. More importantly, it was down nearly 16% from the same weekend last year. Hopefully things will turn around in April, because I don't see that happening next weekend.

Slow week for top-notch websites with only one film that was even in contention for the Weekly Website Award. Fortunately, Drillbit Taylor - Official Site is such a good site it could have won if it was a busy week.

Nine films on this week's list, including The Hammer, which was on last week's list as well. (Hopefully it is really coming out this week, or it might be on next week's list as well.) Most films are only earning average reviews, so it will be interesting to see which ones can fight through that, if any.

Big list in terms of numbers, not so much in terms of quality. In fact, the best film in terms of updates this week was The Simpsons Movie - Official Site, which has already won the Weekly Website Award. Because of that, there are no new winners this week.
