DVD Releases for January 8, 2008

We are back to a relatively normal level of DVD releases this week, including a few that are worth considering for DVD Pick of the Week. Both 3:10 to Yuma on Blu-Ray and The Riches - Season 1 on DVD are prime contenders. If you don't have Blu-Ray, it's the latter, while if you do, it's the former.

$10,000 Club is Shallow this Week

Deep Water was the only film to top $10,000 on the per theater chart after opening with $22,632 in two theaters for an average of $11,316.

Movie Website Updates for August 19 - August 25, 2007

After a few busy weeks in a row, there was a total collapse in the number of sites on this week's list. Not only are there only a couple dozen sites this week, nearly half of them are films that are coming out this week and most of those had no updates to report. This leaves us with no sites that are award-worthy, and precious few that have to potential to make it there in the coming weeks.

Limited Releases Limp Toward the End of Summer

There's a big list of limited releases this week, but not a strong list. It is too late to take advantage of summer holidays to boost their box office, and too early to generate decent Oscar buzz. Only one film, Deep Water is earning overwhelmingly positive reviews, while most can't even crack 50%. Another big list of movie sites, but not much in the way of top-notch entries. For a movie site to be an award winner, I expect it to have all of the usual features, extras like clips, something interactive like a game, and background sound and animation. The film that best exemplifies that criteria is Stardust - Official Site, which is the winner of the Weekly Website Award.
