News Stories About Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure

DVD Releases for August 11th, 2009 - Part II

2009-08-11

It was a hard slog to get through the spotlight reviews this week. I live in Abbotsford, and this was the weekend of the Abbotsford Air Show and the constant stream of jets flying overhead made it nearly impossible to watch movies at times. (Do you know how loud you have to be to drown out Cutthroat Island?) As for this week's list of home market releases, there are a number that are worth picking up, but none that are must haves, and none rise to the level of DVD Pick of the Week. However, while there are no DVD Picks of the Week, there are enough reviews that the list had to be split into two with the first part found here

Chapter is Not Unforeseen on the Per Theater Chart

2008-04-02

There were just two films to reach the $10,000 plateau this week, Chapter 27 and The Unforeseen. The former topped the latter, but it was close at $13,910 to $12,877.

Devil's Far from Dead on the Per Theater Chart

2007-10-30

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead opened in first place on the per theater chart with an impressive average of $36,919 in two theaters. Pete Seeger: Power in Song and Wristcutters: A Love Story were well back but still strong with averages of $11,945 and $10,506 respectively. While those were the only three films to creak $10,000 on the per theater chart, two others came very, very close: Saw IV at $9,977 and Blade Runner at $9,915.

Blade Runner Controls the Per Theater Chart

2007-10-16

Blade Runner climbed into first place on the Per Theater Chart with an average of $32,681 in two theaters during its second week of re-release. Control debuted in second place with $27,674 in its one theater. Lars and the Real Girl opened with just over $90,000 in 7 theaters for an average of $12,917. This is a good start, better than most limited releases can hope for, but less than I was expecting. The Darjeeling Limited continues to perform marvelously as it expands as it earned an average of $11,425 in nearly 100 theaters. The overall box office leader, Why Did I Get Married? opened with an average of $10,618.

Documenting the Limited Releases

2007-10-06

It seems like every limited release this week is a documentary. Of course that's not true as only seven of the thirteen releases are documentaries ... eight if you include Finishing the Game, which is a mockumentary. However, it is Michael Clayton that should become the biggest hit of the group.
