According to Amazon, there are more than 700 DVDs coming out this week; however, this is certainly a case of quantity over quality and I'm having trouble finding 30 releases worth mentioning. It is also a rather light week when it comes to spotlight reviews with only three of them. To end the trifecta of weakness, there are not a lot that are even in contention for DVD Pick of the Week. War Made Easy is arguably the best movie of the week, but the DVD is devoid of extras. Likewise, Bonnie and Clyde on Blu-ray is a good choice, but there are no exclusive features and the Ultimate Collector's Edition has more physical features. Another contender was PTU - Police Tactical Unit, which is a strong movie with equally strong extras. However, in the end none of these releases really lived up to the title of DVD Pick of the Week.

The Savages easily won the race on the per theater chart, scoring $150,000 in 4 theaters for an average of $37,965, and that's with a Wednesday opening.
Over five days, the film earned an average of just over $46,000.
The only other film to crack $10,000 was The Diving Bell and the Butterfly with $75,000 in three theaters for an average of $25,240.

Slow week, both in terms of the number of movies being released, and in terms of the quality of the sites. Aaja Nachle - Official Site stood out as the best site, but not good enough to win the Weekly Website Award.

With the official beginning of award season happening earlier in the week, it should come as no surprise that there are a couple potential Oscar winners among this week's films. It's a close battle between The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and The Savages for the most glory, but there are a few other films worth checking out as well.
