Another week without a marquee first run release.
There are three movies that had wide releases in theaters on the list, which is not an abnormally low number, but not one of them is even worth renting.
However, there are some limited releases, classic releases and TV-on-DVD releases that are certainly worth checking out.
The best of these is The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters - Buy from Amazon - which is our DVD Pick of the Week.

January ends with the return of Rambo. This is the first release in the franchise in nearly 20 years, and its this week's target film. To win, one must simple predict the film's opening weekend box office.
Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a copy of He Was a Quiet Man on DVD, as well as Fatal Contact on DVD.

The early year doldrums continue on the home market front. Even though there are plenty of releases, including eight spotlight reviews, there are none that really jump out as Contenders for DVD Pick of the Week. Family Guy - Blue Harvest Special Edition could be called the best of a weak bunch, but odds are everything the disc will be included in a future release that will be a lot more competitively priced.
(On the other hand, if you want the cool physical extras, grab the Limited Edition release.)

Slow week, both in terms of the number of movies being released, and in terms of the quality of the sites. Aaja Nachle - Official Site stood out as the best site, but not good enough to win the Weekly Website Award.

With the official beginning of award season happening earlier in the week, it should come as no surprise that there are a couple potential Oscar winners among this week's films. It's a close battle between The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and The Savages for the most glory, but there are a few other films worth checking out as well.
