Cars Lap Competition on Home Market

2006-11-19

Cars led a group of new releases that dominated the sales charts this week, however, it had to settle for a very close second place on the rental charts. Leading the way was Mission: Impossible: III with $9.31 million while Cars took in $9.24 million.

DVD Releases for November 7, 2006

2006-11-06

It's the first week of the month, and like usual, it's a busy, busy week. But while there are plenty of DVDs coming out tomorrow, the list if first-run releases is weak and the recent limited releases didn't really pick up the slack (although Wordplay - Buy from Amazon was the best of that list). This means when it came to DVD Pick of the Week we have to go back, sometimes way back. The most recent is Grosse Pointe - The Complete Series - Buy from Amazon while fellow TV on DVD release, Police Squad! The Complete Series - Buy from Amazon, is also in up there. For movies we have The Transformers - The Movie - 20th Anniversary Special Edition - Buy from Amazon and the two box sets James Bond - Ultimate Collection - Volume 1 and Volume 2. I'm not going to choose just one, but I'm thinking of not picking up the Bond sets until next month when I can get the whole collection at once.

New Releases Fail to Strike it Rich

2006-07-25

There were no new releases to top $10,000 on the per theatre charts this week, but two holdovers were able to accomplish that feat. Gabrielle added one more theatre over the weekend but saw its average slip less than 17% to $12,781. Meanwhile, Changing Times quadrupled its theatre count while seeing its average fall to $10,622.

Movie Website Updates for July 15 - July 21

2006-07-21

Another busy week, but unlike last week there was no massive blockbuster launching its flash site. Two sites stood out this week, (not counting past winners), and they are wildly different both in terms of style and in terms of the movie they are selling: Accepted - Official Site and World Trade Center - Official Site. The former is goofy and seriously immature, while the latter is one of the most emotional sites I've ever seen. In was nearly a coin flip, but in the end I went with Accepted - Official Site, but I would be willing to bet the other site will win before the movie comes out.

World According to Limited Releases

2006-07-21

It's a light week for limited releases both in terms of quantity and quality. The film with the best shot at box office success seems to be Been Rich All My Life, but it will still need a bit of luck to make it.
