IMAX numbers are hard to find, for international IMAX number it's doubly so. Working on the international numbers I was able to come across box office figures for half a dozen IMAX films from four markets.

For the second week in a row Aliens of the Deep saw a week to week increase. This week it was a modest 2.14% increase, but that does suggest there's room for its theatre count to grow.

Iznogoud: Calife a la place du calife, a movie based on a Asterix and Obelix spin off of sorts, dominated the French box office taking in $7.1 million, more than double the second place film and more than a third of the top ten total. It is also enough to push it into the Top Five on the international scene, dropping Finding Neverland into sixth place. Unfortunately, like the several films made in the Asterix and Obelix series, this one is unlikely to make much of an impact outside the French speaking markets.

After starting out slower than expected last weekend, Aliens of the Deep sank a little faster than expected this weekend, falling by nearly 24%.
That's twice as steep as Ghosts of the Abyss's dropped during its second weekend of release, and nearly three times as fast as NASCAR: The IMAX Experience.

The latest edutainment film hit IMAX screens over the weekend, but the results for Aliens of the Deep were mixed.
Its per theater average of $17,754 was the best of the weekend and beat James Cameron's last IMAX venture, Ghosts of the Abyss.
However, that film played in more than 3 times the theaters.
Compared to NASCAR: The IMAX Experience, Aliens of the Deep earned a weaker per theater average, while playing in less than half the theaters.

Spider-man 2's the latest Hollywood blockbuster to be super-sized for the IMAX screen. The Marvel Comics icon opens in IMAX theatres on July 23rd, however, like all recent films to play on both IMAX and regular movie screens don't expect to see separate box office reports for its IMAX earnings. They will most likely just be lumped in with regular box office numbers.

Two IMAX films hit milestones during the past week. Space Station topped $50 million during the past week while NASCAR: The IMAX Experience crossed $10 million. In addition, NASCAR should enter the top twenty on the All-Time IMAX Charts within a few weeks.

Tomorrow is Earth Day, which makes it the perfect time for Sacred Planet to open in IMAX theatres. This one deals with some of the most extreme conditions on earth, the pristine, the exotic and the remote. It's opening in just 18 theatres, a fraction of the theatres NASCAR: The IMAX Experience opened only a little more than a month ago. While this will certainly hurt its box office potential in the short run, it should boost its per theatre earnings and help with strong legs.

For the third weekend in a row NASCAR: The IMAX Experience earned more than $1 million. That's a feat not even Star Wars: Attack of the Clones could accomplish.

Another sign of strength was shown by IMAX this week as NASCAR: The IMAX Experience held on to more than 90% of its opening. And in raw dollars was closer to that illusive 10th place than last weekend, although it did finish one place lower on the charts.

After a weak 2003, IMAX appears poised to rebound in 2004. Its first release of the year, NASCAR: The IMAX Experience debuted with an impressive $1.5 million. That represented a $21,580 per theatre average, close to $10,000 above the winner of the Per Theatre Charts. It was also good enough for 11th place on the overall charts, tying the record set by Fantasia 2000. That film hit 11th place twice during its run.
