News Stories About Aliens of the Deep

DVD Releases for November 1, 2005

2005-10-31

Every week, movies (e.g. Star Wars, Episode III - Revenge of the Sith) get a second chance on the home market. Or, in some cases (unlike, say, Star Wars, Episode III - Revenge of the Sith), a first chance at success. Here is a list, including Star Wars, Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, and a few from the growing TV on DVD section. As you can probably tell, Star Wars, Episode III - Revenge of the Sith - Buy from Amazon is this week's DVD Pick of the Week. Not that there was ever any doubt about that.

Aliens Invade International Markets

2005-04-03

Aliens of the Deep continues its international run with some stellar results including $63,565 on 2 screens during the week in the U.K., more than double last week's performance. The film also showed improvement in Australia taking in $52,398 on 2 screens.

Baby Takes Fifth in Close Race

2005-03-20

After gathering in all the data the winner for the race for fifth place is Million Dollar Baby, I think. It would need to lost more than 40% from last week's total and that's not taking into account its openings in South Korea at $1,515,672 and second place, its $110,000, third place debut in Finland, $86,000 in Russia, $50,000, second place debut in Hong Kong. Unfortunately, exact weekend totals are unknown but it is estimated at $6 million raising its international total to $43 million so far.

IMAX - International Edition

2005-02-27

IMAX numbers are hard to find, for international IMAX number it's doubly so. Working on the international numbers I was able to come across box office figures for half a dozen IMAX films from four markets.

Alien Sees Sustained Growth

2005-02-23

For the second week in a row Aliens of the Deep saw a week to week increase. This week it was a modest 2.14% increase, but that does suggest there's room for its theatre count to grow.

French Film Finishes Fifth

2005-02-20

Iznogoud: Calife a la place du calife, a movie based on a Asterix and Obelix spin off of sorts, dominated the French box office taking in $7.1 million, more than double the second place film and more than a third of the top ten total. It is also enough to push it into the Top Five on the international scene, dropping Finding Neverland into sixth place. Unfortunately, like the several films made in the Asterix and Obelix series, this one is unlikely to make much of an impact outside the French speaking markets.

Alien Invasion Grows

2005-02-15

It's been a tough couple of weeks for Aliens of the Deep: it started out slow and fell faster then expected. But it finally had some good news this week. First of all, it crossed $1 million on Monday. Then this weekend it saw its box office climb nearly 9%, while topping the per theater average charts. (At least, it would have if we placed IMAX films on that chart.)

Aliens Sink Faster than Expected

2005-02-08

After starting out slower than expected last weekend, Aliens of the Deep sank a little faster than expected this weekend, falling by nearly 24%. That's twice as steep as Ghosts of the Abyss's dropped during its second weekend of release, and nearly three times as fast as NASCAR: The IMAX Experience.

Aliens' Success is not as Deep

2005-02-02

The latest edutainment film hit IMAX screens over the weekend, but the results for Aliens of the Deep were mixed. Its per theater average of $17,754 was the best of the weekend and beat James Cameron's last IMAX venture, Ghosts of the Abyss. However, that film played in more than 3 times the theaters.

Compared to NASCAR: The IMAX Experience, Aliens of the Deep earned a weaker per theater average, while playing in less than half the theaters.
