There were seven new releases to chart this week including the new number one rental, Flags of Our Fathers, which pulled in $7.66 million during its first weekend of release.

It's the first Tuesday of the month and, like many months, it's a busy week for DVDs.
Busy, but not necessarily that strong.
Looking at the more than three dozen releases on this week's list, there's little here that I would consider DVD Pick of the Week material.
No first-run releases came even close, but there were a trio of other contenders: Eddie Murphy - Delirious - Buy from Amazon, Hellboy - Sword of Storms - Buy from Amazon, and The Science of Sleep - Buy from Amazon.
It is safe to say all three will end up in my ever-growing DVD collection, but Eddie Murphy - Delirious - Buy from Amazon alone is the DVD Pick of the Week.
I think that's the first time a stand-up concert film has earned that honor.

Babel led the way when the Golden Globe nominations were announced today with seven nominations while The Departed was close behind with six.

2006-11-07
Just a trio of films in the $10,000 club, but they are managed that feat by a huge margin. Leading the way was Volver with just under $200,000 on 5 theaters for an average of $39,541. This is actually lower than the opening per theater average for Pedro Almodovar's previous two films, but his biggest opening ever. Second place went to the overall number one film, Borat with $31,607 while last week's per theater average champion, Babel, came in third with $26,264 despite a huge increase in its theater count.

2006-10-31
It was a busy week on the per theater charts with five films topping $10,000 and another coming awfully close.
Leading the way was Oscar bait, Babel with nearly $400,000 in 7 theaters for an average of $55,622, which was four times the next highest earner.
That film, The Queen, earned nearly $2 million in 152 for an average of $12,560 during its fifth week of release.
Shut Up and Sing was in a virtual tie for second place with an average of $12,526 in its four theaters, while The Nightmare Before Christmas 3D wasn't that far behind with $11,409.
The final film to top $10,000 was the overall box office leader, Saw III, which managed an average of $10,613 in its 3,167 theaters.

Running With Scissors ran away with the crown on the per theatre charts, earning an average of $28,264 in its 8 theatres. However, with reviews that are less than impressive, it could have serious troubles expanding.
The Nightmare Before Christmas 3D opened in second place with $3.3 million in 168 theatres for an average of $19,506.
The only other film to crack $10,000 was The Queen with $15,253 during its fourth week of release.

Strange week with very few site featuring updates, but several very strong contenders for Weekly Website Award. In the end I went with The Prestige - Official Site, but several others on this list should win awards in the coming weeks.

2006-10-20
Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas 3D gets the jump on the holiday by opening in 168 theatres tonight.
While that's the widest limited release for the week, it isn't the only one that shows some promise for mainstream success.

2006-10-14
With more and more Oscar contenders getting ready to start their theatrical runs, it is fitting that a satire of such films, For Your Consideration - Official Site, takes home the Weekly Website Award.

This week's round of new movie release information contains the new and changed release dates that have been announced for the past two weeks.

It seems a lot of people are starting their holidays early, but not this column as it's the busiest it's been in more than a month. Including in this list are a few newly released teaser trailers and a handful of flash sites, most of which are worth checking out. But the best of the best is the Running With Scissors - Official Site.

2006-02-09
During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. It was the busiest week in more than a month, but there weren't many big launches or massive updates, so it is the slow-growing V For Vendetta - Official Site that earns the Weekly Website Award.
|
2005-12-29
This week's list of movie site is abridged and only contains the two films that are opening this week plus more than a dozen site that have never appeared on this list before. However, it was one of the two new openings, Match Point - Official Site, that took the weekly website award.
