DVD Releases for April 17, 2007

2007-04-16

For the second weekend in a row I had to dig hard to find some of the DVDs on this week's list. But unlike last weekend, there are a number of DVD releases that jumped out as contenders for DVD Pick of the Week including the gritty La Haine - Criterion Collection - Buy from Amazon and the Oscar winning The Last King of Scotland - Buy from Amazon. But in the end I went with sublime humor of The Venture Bros. - Season Two - Buy from Amazon, which may seem like a lowbrow choice compared to the others above, but it earns the title of DVD Pick of the Week.

Click Wins Close Contest

2006-10-28

Despite a glut of new releases Click was able to remain on the top of the rental charts. This week it dipped just 20% to $9.03 million over the week and $20.54 million after two.

DVD Releases for October 17, 2006

2006-10-16

It's a rather slow week for DVD releases with fewer than normal instantly jumping out as must haves. There were some contenders for DVD Pick of the Week with the top two being Masters of Horror: Larry Cohen - Pick Me Up - Buy from Amazon and Over the Hedge - Buy from Amazon. If I were to give the edge to one of them, it would be Over the Hedge.

Sound as Science

2006-09-26

The Science of Sleep started its theatrical run atop the per theatre charts with nearly $350,000 in 14 theatres for an average of $24,852. The studio hopes to expand the film into 200 theatres this weekend but it is too soon to tell if the film will be able to attract an audience outside the art house circuit. Second place went to American Hardcore as the documentary took in $18,102 in its lone theatre. Next up were a pair of holdovers with Old Joy earning $17,556 in one theatre, which is more than it made during its entire, nearly month-long release. Finally, Keeping Mum fell just 25.67% to just over $20,000 in 2 theatres for an average of $10,077.

Movie Website Updates for September 16 - September 22

2006-09-23

Slow week with just over half a dozen sites on the list. Of them, Renaissance - Official Site is clearly the best with a few others showing promise.

Science Leads a Renaissance of Limited Releases

2006-09-22

With an eclectic mix of movies opening in limited release this week, there's should be something for everyone here. However, none seem to have what it takes to escape the limited release label and earn some mainstream success, but a couple Renaissance and The Science of Sleep, could surprise.

Movie Website Updates for September 2 - September 8

2006-09-08

After a very busy month, the number of site on this week's list dropped off dramatically. The decline in quantity was accompanied by a decline in quality with no site jumping out as the obvious choice for the Weekly Website Award. The Guardian - Official Site came the closest, but it will have to wait till more features are added for that honor.

Movie Website Updates for August 19 - August 25

2006-08-26

It's another busy week with nearly three dozen films being represented here. Taking top prize is Invincible - Official Site, although there were a few others that could take that claim before all is said and done.

Movie Website Updates for June 3rd - June 9

2006-06-09

It was a slow week it terms of major updates and that allowed the Fanboy in me to grant The Transformers - Official Site the gloriously premature Weekly Website Award. Let's hope the full site lives up to this title.
