News Stories About The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning

Saw is Seen by Fewer on the Home Market

2007-02-03

It was good news / bad news for Saw III. Good news: Not only was it the best new release it also top the overall rental charts with $7.62 million. Bad news: That was down significantly from Saw II's debut last year.

Employee of the Month is the Rental of the Week

2007-01-27

New releases dominated both charts on the home market with Employee of the Month taking top spot on the rental charts with just $5.31 million during its first week of release.

DVD Releases for January 16, 2007

2007-01-16

2007 continues its slow start with little in the way of quality first run releases. The only one that is worth picking up is The Protector - Buy from Amazon, but the quality of the movie is a little low for it to be DVD Pick of the Week. On the TV on DVD front the best of the best was Doctor Who - The Complete Second Series - Buy from Amazon, but here the price is a little high, which lowers its appeal. To find the DVD Pick of the Week you have to dig really deep and come up with Purgatory House, which can be purchased through Amazon or direct from their official site.

International Details - Truly International Box Office

2006-12-17

Open Season solidified its chances to reach $100 million with a first place debut in Italy. Over the weekend the film just managed to beat Happy Feet $1.68 million to $1.66 million over the weekend, (with midweek numbers Open Season earned $1.82 million on 430 screens). The film was not as successful in Japan with just $968,000 on 441 screens; with such a small per theatre average, it will likely disappear quickly from charts. Overall it earned $4.97 million on 3451 screens in 51 markets for a total of $87.16 million; and even with no major markets left to open in, it does have a great shot at $100 million before its run is over.

International Details - Germany Dominates the Best of the Rest

2006-10-22

The German soccer film, Deutschland. Ein Sommermarchen, remained in first place in Germany and sixth overall this weekend. It managed this feat by falling just 25% to $5.41 million on 671 screens for a two-week total of $14.67 million.

Saturday the 14th Turns Out to be the Really Unlucky Day for The Grudge

2006-10-17

It is reported that Friday the 13th costs the American economy $500 million as there are some people so afraid of that day that they are too scared to leave the house. That doesn't seem to be true for the movies, as Friday was the only day to outpace last weekend. Overall the box office managed $110 million, 1% lower than last weekend. However, that was 25% more than the same weekend last year when all three new releases bombed.

Grudge Hopes to Take it Out on the Competition

2006-10-12

There's little doubt which film will take top spot this weekend as there is almost no serious competition for The Grudge 2. However, analysts are divided on exactly how much it will earn on its way to the top.

Crime Pays Way Better Than Retail

2006-10-10

October officially washed away the stench that is September with the overall box office beating expectations at a total of $110 million. That is just shy of 10% higher than last weekend and 5% higher than the same weekend last year. Almost all of this growth can be attributed to The Departed, helped by its amazing reviews. The question now is whether it will have better legs than last year's number one film?

Movie Website Updates for September 30 - October 6, 2006

2006-10-07

Good week for websites, but most were smaller updates or new sites with just a few features. Two sites, Happy Feet - Official Site and The Prestige - Official Site, stood out above the crowd, but both will need a few more update to take home the Weekly Website Award.

Departed and Chainsaw Face-off in Theatres

2006-10-06

Martin Scorsese begins his latest campaign to win that elusive Oscar as The Departed looks to take first place over the weekend. The other new releases this weekend are unlikely to win any awards, but with total production budgets just a fraction of The Departed's, they could be more profitable.

2006 Preview: October

2006-10-01

It's October, that means there's more hits, more Oscar hopefuls, and more horror films being released. But more importantly, it means September is over. September seemed weaker than normal in terms of top box office draws, but even though October is bound to produce more hits, the box office potential still seems soft. I only see one $100 million movie, but a least a few more might come within striking distance.

New Movie US Release Dates - September 10, 2006

2006-09-10

This week's round of new movie release information contains release dates for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, a sequel to Madagascar and more.

Movie Website Updates for September 2 - September 8

2006-09-08

After a very busy month, the number of site on this week's list dropped off dramatically. The decline in quantity was accompanied by a decline in quality with no site jumping out as the obvious choice for the Weekly Website Award. The Guardian - Official Site came the closest, but it will have to wait till more features are added for that honor.

Movie Website Updates for June 3rd - June 9

2006-06-09

It was a slow week it terms of major updates and that allowed the Fanboy in me to grant The Transformers - Official Site the gloriously premature Weekly Website Award. Let's hope the full site lives up to this title.
