News Stories About Marilyn Hotchkiss' Ballroom Dancing and Charm School

DVD Releases for July 4, 2006

2006-07-03

This year July 4th lands on a Tuesday, and with most people's thoughts on BBQs and not DVDs, the selection of new releases is absolutely terrible and is easily the weakest I can remember. In fact, even with just ten entries, it still feels like I'm padding the total a bit. Fortunately there were a couple of releases in contention for DVD Pick of the Week, including the first season of the new Doctor Who, although with this DVD, the price was a little scary. So in the end I went with The Matador - Buy from Amazon, which would have been a contender even during the busiest week.

Solid as a Brick Art House

2006-04-04

We have a new leader on the per theatre charts as Brick opened with more than $80,000 in just 2 theatres for a per theatre average of $41,787. This bodes very well for this Friday's planned expansion and the film is nearly guaranteed some measure of mainstream success. That can't be said for the second place movie, Drawing Restraint 9; even though the film earned $18,011 in its lone theatre, it is destined to spend it time on the art house circuit by its very nature. Next up is the overall box office leader, Ice Age: The Meltdown with an average of $17,163; it will be interesting to see if it can repeat in the $10,000 club next weekend. Finally, we have Thank You for Smoking, the only holdover to top $10,000 per theatre. During its third week of release the film more than doubled it theatre count but its per theatre average remained solid at $12,749.

Limited Releases: Hitting a Brick Wall

2006-03-31

Four films on this week's list, but I can't see any of them really earning widespread success. Brick probably has the best chance, but the appeal will be limited by its over-stylized nature.

Movie Website Updates for March 24 - March 30

2006-03-30

Another week with less sites than I would have liked. (On a side note, it seems every time something weird happens it happens on a Thursday. This time its slight internet connection problems / memory leak. I think. Whatever it is, it's causing my computer to act really slowly.) This shorter list doesn't mean there isn't an award-worthy site and the best of the best is Over the Hedge - Official Site.

Movie Website Updates for March 10 - March 16

2006-03-16

Pretty average week with all best sites being previous award winners. The best of the rest was Silent Hill - Official Site, and even though this week's update wasn't huge, it was enough to make the overall site award-worthy.
