Fockers Finish First

Unfortunately I’m still digging through 70 Gigs of potentially lost data and this week’s weekend wrap-up is shorter than usual. As soon as I rebuild my database I’ll posted the updated story.

Meet the Fockers dropped just 9.5% to $41.7 million and will easily make $200 million before its theatrical run is over. When it does it will become the six film from 2004 to do so, but at just 39% positive it will be the lowest rated film in that club.

Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events saw its weekend take bounce back by 15.66% to $14.6 million and should hit $100 million before long. Still not enough to be considered a strong success and unless it a huge hit on the home market a sequel is unlikely.

Jumping up a spot to third was The Aviator with $11.4 million, up 31.67% for last weekend. Unfortunately for the multiple Golden Globe nominee, it is a case of too little too late.

Fat Albert didn’t get much of a New Year’s boost finishing with $10.2 million over the weekend. While this will help the film show a profit, eventually, it won’t become the franchise like the studio was hoping for.

Rounding out the top five was Ocean’s Twelve with $9.4 million, up more than $1 million from last weekend. The film also became the 21st film released in 2004 to cross the $100 million mark.
