Movie Website Launches for February 25 - March 3

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates, including this week's winner, Tidelands - Official Site. If you know of any new movie websites not on this list feel free to e-mail me with the details.

A Lot Like Love
The site is pretty basic with only the bare minimum for features, synopsis, cast and crew (no bios), image gallery and trailer. But there's enough sound and animation to remain interesting and with three extras marked coming soon the site has enough potential to keep the surfer coming back.

Be Cool
Since the movie is set in the music industry the site should have plenty of tunes. And it does. However, there's a problem as the load time between songs as been unacceptably long. The site doesn't start loading the next song until the first song is finish so you have long gaps between the music.

Best of Youth
Miramax site. 'Nuff said.

D.E.B.S.
The flash site launched this week and it has a good mix of animation and content. Synopsis, cast bios, director bios, image gallery, trailer and two clips. There is also a personality quiz to add some interaction to the site.

Dear Frankie
It's a Miramax site. Moving on.

The Devil's Rejects
There's a new site for the Ruggsville Sheriff Department. It's a simple site that looks like many other Sheriff Department sites, but adds a certain charm to the overall site. It's also nice for me to actually be able to view a section of the site without trying to verify my age.

Dust to Glory
Information on the production team was added in time for tomorrow's debut, but the Baja 1000 Tour is still marked coming soon.

Funny Ha Ha
Simple site with all the usual features but it lacks animation, which is strange since it is a flash site. It does have a few songs you can choose between for background music.

Guess Who
This is a good flash site with all the usual features and more than enough animation to keep viewers attention. Besides the usual features there are two extras, 'Quiz' and 'Games,' marked coming soon. Depending on how well done they are, this could be an award winning site.

Gunner Palace
Lot of information on this site, lot of it. In fact, it is more like a Blog than a promotion site. Most of the content is either Blog entries or links to other Blogs that have mentioned this one.

High Tension
Current Content: New flash site, but it appears that the content is all the same. Which includes the section called "Tension" marked coming soon.

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
A new, online exclusive trailer was added to the website. Every time I see a new trailer I get more excited about the movie.

The Honeymooners
The placeholder site underwent a redesign, but no new content was added.

Ice Princess
Overall this is a good site. It has most of the usual features, synopsis, cast and crew (no bios), image gallery, trailer, and extras like soundtrack listing as well as a music video. The format isn't overwhelming, but it does has some animation, background music and plenty of audio clips. Add in several features still marked "coming soon" and it's one of the better sites this week.

The Jacket
An excellent site that has already won the weekly website award, mostly due to the disorienting main feature.

Look at Me
The site doesn’t have a whole lot of features, but they are presented in a pleasing way. Without a menu, you scroll over the characters at the bottom of the site and clicking on them takes you to the synopsis, cast and crew (no bios), reviews and trailer (marked coming soon).

Madison
Now that the movie's got a new release date, it has got a new website to go with it. The new one is on par with the old with the synopsis, cast and crew bios, image gallery, trailer and information on the sport itself.

Mindhunters
The trailer is on the site, and it looks like the movie has an interesting premise at the very least. However, given the actors involved and the number of times this film has been moved around, I can't help but think it's a dud.

Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous
The flash site is now marked coming soon. I know, it's not much of an update, but for a while I was thinking the placeholder site was all we were going to get.

Modigliani
A subdued site, but that is not to say it lacks animation. For instance, the synopsis, production notes and bios are painted onto canvases. There's also information on the artist depicted in the movie, but the lack of sound is a bit of a problem.

Monster-in-Law
New trailer on the site, still ambivalent to the film's chances, however.

The Pacifier
The film opens tomorrow so most of the features have made it to the site, leaving just one of the two games still marked coming soon. Most of the features are extras like the Bad Duck! game and the Family Life tips and with the amount of animation and sound (especially audio clips), it's not a bad site. However, after surfing the entire site, I'm no more inclined to see the movie than before, so it fails on that point. Just checked the site one last time and the second game has been added to the site. It's a racing game involving a minivan with what I assume is severely damaged suspension.

Robots
The rest of the city was added to the site, as was one more mini game. In the end, it was not as interactive as I was hoping it would be.

Saw 2
Just a placeholder site with no actual content.

Serenity
No new updates on the main site, but the Browncoats section has set photographs and some shots from WonderCon featuring Joss Whedon and some of the cast members.

Tideland
Four more videos were added to the site. Three are location shoots with no actual dialogue, just background music. The other is a longer and more detailed look at one of the sets, The White Room. This is turning into an excellent site with plenty of reasons to keep coming back, which is exactly what Terry Gilliam said it would be like in his video introduction. So far there are more than a dozen video clips and I expect plenty more to be added in the coming year before the film is finally released sometime in 2006, unless it's pushed back (Terry Gilliam has had some trouble getting his films into theatre recently, storms, sickness, money troubles, studio conflicts, etc.). In the meantime, this site is the fantastical winner of the Weekly Website Award, partially for what it is today and partially for its immense potential.

Walk on Water
Simple site with most of the basics, (only two cast members and none of the crew have bios) but lacks sound and animation.
