Movie Website Updates for November 18 - November 25

November 24, 2005

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates, including this week's winner, The Producers - Official Site.

Aeon Flux - Official Site
Massive update this week with almost all of the remaining content added. Cast & crew bios, production notes, character bios, lots more images, the next two chapters in the interactive comic book, and much more. There are still a couple of chapters in the comic book and the Script to Screen feature left marked coming soon, but I'm not sure they will all be added before the film hits the theatres.

Brokeback Mountain - Official Site
The flash site is up, and while it is very solid, there's not enough extras on the site to make it stand out. Regular features like synopsis, cast & crew bios, etc. are all here, but the only semi-unique feature is the music section, which has clips from the 17 songs from the movie soundtrack. Also, there are two features, (behind-the-scenes and clips), that are still marked coming soon. Overall, it is a good site, just not good enough to be an award-winning site.

Casino Royale - Official Site
There's a new pre-site page to choose a local Bond Site. Right now the only choices are United States and International.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe - Official Site
Another section was added to Narnia, The Stone Table. Like the previous areas, this one has a bit of information but mostly contains downloadables.

Clerks 2: The Passion of the Clerks - Official Site
Firstly, and most importantly, there was a note saying that the production has wrapped up. Also, there were three more video clips added this week including one on the sound guys, which is both informative and educational while completely devoid of profanity. I'm not sure why it's on the site; it was probably uploaded by accident.

Dreamgirls - Official Site
Not much here that's related directly to the movie. There's the synopsis and a press release, plus some information for schools that are putting on a production of play that the film is based on.

The Family Stone - Official Site
The flash site launched this week, but it is a disappointment. There's the synopsis, characters bios, image gallery, and the trailer but that's not much more than most placeholder sites.

Fun With Dick and Jane - Official Site
The final game is on the site, but it just spews random corporate-speak and doesn't take into account what the user actually types.

The Ice Harvest - Official Site
The flash site is up, and while the menu system is inventive, it really isn't all that practical. Also, there's not a whole lot here besides the basics.

In the Mix - Official Site
A couple of games were added to the site, but there were nothing special.

Just Friends - Official Site
No changes in a while, which means what I thought was a promising start was just an average site.

Lady in the Water - Official Site
Just the synopsis and the teaser trailer, which is somewhat intriguing, but I'm still not sold on the movie.

Last Holiday - Official Site
The flash site launched this week and it has plenty of potential, but it also has more features marked coming soon than are currently on the site. Synopsis, images gallery, trailer, and downloads are there with cast & crew bios, production notes, film clips, and games are marked coming soon. The style of the site helps, but the background music is too repetitive to be a selling point.

The Libertine - Official Site
Not much here, but it appears to be the standard site for a Weinstein Co. movie.

Match Point - Official Site
Yet another flash site that launched this week, this one is still a work in progress with just the synopsis, image gallery and the trailer on the site. There are these three interactive sections that help establish the story, but they are currently quite short and end in, "To be continued..." I give it good marks for potential, but it is still wait and see with regards to the Weekly Website Award.

Monster House - Official Site
The trailer is up, and it's not bad, but not that good either. On a side note, the film practically screams Halloween, so why is it coming out in the middle of Summer?

Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont - Official Site
A simple site with all the usual features but nothing in the way of extras.

The New World - Official Site
The cast and crew bios were added to the site.

The Pink Panther - Official Site
The flash site is finally up, but it wasn't worth the wait. There's not enough here to be too enthusiastic about, but the Diamond Detective section could save the site if it is well done and interactive enough.

The Producers - Official Site
One of many, many flash sites to launch this week, but even in a busy week, this one stands out. There's plenty of sound and animation, including plenty of songs, (which makes perfect sense since the movie is a musical). The site has all the usual features, (synopsis, production notes, cast & crew bios, image gallery, and trailer & TV spots), and there are some extras like Baily's Big Ones, (information of some of Max Bialystock's previous broadway hits). Add in all the audio clips, little animated touches and you have the winner of the duped Weekly Website Award

The Ringer - Official Site
The final section was added to the site, but it was just some downloads.

Rumor Has It - Official Site
Another new flash site that launched this week, but it is quite small with just the basics in terms of content. As for style, there's enough sound and animation on the site that is doesn't feel lacking in that department, but not enough to make it stand out.

Stormbreaker - Official Site
There's no real content on the site, just two links, one to the book's site and the other to the book's author's site.

Superman Returns - Official Site
The teaser trailer was added to the site, which was way too much teaser and not trailer for my liking.

Syriana - Official Site
What I thought was a really impressive placeholder site turned into a rather mediocre full site. It has a lot of information, but not nearly enough style to stand out in a very crowded field.

TransAmerica - Official Site
The trailer was added this week, and it is a lot better than I was expecting. The subject matter is too out there for even a sleeper hit, but it should do well in limited release.

Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story - Official Site
No real content so far.

The World's Fastest Indian - Official Site
The placeholder site was completely redone with a notice saying the U.S. is coming soon. The only other content is the trailer and the link to the original site.

Yours, Mine and Ours - Official Site
Massive update this week with five clips and the rest of the interviews added to the site. The only thing missing now is the behind-the-scenes featurette.
