Syriana made an unbelievable start over the Thanksgiving weekend, earning just shy of $375,000 in 5 theatres for a per theatre average of $74,900 — easily the best over the weekend.
Last week's winner, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was pushed into second place with an average of $14,185 in 3858 theatres, which would have been an impressive opening for most blockbusters.
On a side note, three other films, Breakfast on Pluto, Classe Tous Risques, and The Syrian Bride all reached the $10,000 mark, if you include Wednesday and Thursday.
This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theatre Chart alumni:
- Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang reached $3 million mid-week and, even though it has peaked at the box office, it should still reach one or two more milestones.
- The Squid and the Whale also reached $3 million, but it did it over the weekend. Also, it is showing stronger legs and should last longer in the theatres.
- Pride & Prejudice hit $15 million over the weekend and still has enough strength left in it for at least one more major expansion.
