King-Sized Expectations

December 14, 2005

Normally when a movie opens wide on a Wednesday, I do a full prediction. However, with an ongoing contest to predict King Kong's weekend box office, I'll be sticking with the Wednesday / Thursday portion for now.

The expectations for King Kong are as big as the Ape himself, and for the most part, the film lives up to those expectations. At least it does with the critics.

At the box office, some are expecting the film to outperform Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, but that's just not going to happen. It could have an opening similar to The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, but shorter legs.

So look for $30 million tonight, $18 million tomorrow, and the weekend prediction just after our Constest closes on Friday.
