Duo Debuts in Limited Release

Only two films are opening in limited release this week, but they have a lot in common, and not just the first three letters of their name.
(But mostly that.)

Since he took over the Bond role, Pierce Brosnan has not had much success outside of that franchise.
However, this film could change that as it is earning the star's best reviews since Goldeneye (not counting the narrating he did in Dolphins). Even so, the film, like all limited releases, has a steep hill to climb if they want to earn widespread success. The Matador opens in four theatres tonight, including the Arclight Cinemas in Los Angeles.
This is another film that is a rebirth of sorts.
Woody Allen hasn't had a real hit in a while.
In fact, you have too look back a decade to Bullets Over Broadway to find a film of his that was a real player during award season.
(Although both Mighty Aphrodite and Deconstructing Harry picked up several awards / nominations, neither did anywhere near as well as Bullets Over Broadway.)
However, this film is earning massive praise and even four Golden Globe nominations.
Match Point opened in 8 theatres on Wednesday and initial estimates had it brining in $96,000.
That's a great start, and assuming it can hold onto that momentum, it should become his biggest hit of the millennium.
