SAG Spreads out the Love

January 29, 2006

There were 5 theatrical awards handed out tonight by the Screen Actors Guild, and five different films won.

Here is a complete list of the winners:

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture Reactions:
  • Again, not much in the way of surprises tonight.
  • Brokeback Mountain was shut out, but it wasn't the favorite to win any of the awards.
  • Felicity Huffman lost out to Reese Witherspoon, which I would consider the biggest surprise of the night.
  • I was hoping Catherine Keener would win for Capote, but Philip Seymour Hoffman was so amazing in that movie that it is unlikely voters will single out anyone but him.
  • Paul Giamatti won, which has to at least make him an odds on favorite to earn an Oscar nomination, thus making it even more devastating when he is robbed again.
