Movie Website Updates for February 24 - March 2

March 2, 2006

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. There was a three way race for top spot this week with Slither - Official Site taking home the award. However, it won based on equal parts what it is and what it should become once all the content marked coming soon is added to the site.

16 Blocks - Official Site
What I thought was the placeholder site turns out to be the full site. Very disappointing.

95 Miles to Go - Official Site
Lots of information here, but the site doesn't have a very polished feel to it. The Q&A session between Ray Romano and Tom Caltabiano is quite funny to read.

300 - Official Site
Another journal entry was added to the site.

Aquamarine - Official Site
A couple of new things were added this week, include a link to the game on NeoPets. But overall the site still feels like they didn't put a whole lot of effort into it.

Clerks 2: The Passion of the Clerks - Official Site
Info on the early screenings were added to the site, but more importantly, there was a time frame given for the trailer's release.

David Chappelle's Block Party - Official Site
The movie opens tomorrow and the section on the music is still marked coming soon.

Deep Sea 3-D - Official Site
Good site with plenty of information, and lots of video clips. Like most such Edutainment films, there is also an educators guide.

Dreamgirls - Official Site
There's a new intro and a behind the scene video clips.

Dungeon Siege - Official Site
The placeholder site was redesigned this week and it lost all of its features.

Failure to Launch - Official Site
The 10 Easy Steps to get him out of the house section was added to the site. In response, here are the C.S.Strowbridge 3 Easy Steps...

  1. Dump his crap on the front lawn
  2. Change the locks
  3. Call the cops... (optional)
Find Me Guilty - Official Site
The flash site is up, but outside the regular features, there's nothing here to see.

The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things - Official Site
The JT Leroy Timeline is added to the site.

Joyeux Noel - Official Site
No real changes since last week.

Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector - Official Site
The full site is up, but it doesn't have a very professional feel. In many way, that makes it perfect for the movie.

Lucky Number Slevin - Official Site
This is the most uninteresting website I've ever seen. It should really just be a re-direct to the Weinstein Co. Official Site.

See No Evil - Official Site
A section called, "Visit the Hotel" was added, but so far it is just the intro with all the content marked coming soon.

She's the Man - Official Site
I mentioned last week that the same clip of Amanda Bynes talking played each time a section loaded. This week, there's a clip of a different character for each section. I would take credit for the change except... you know what? I am going to take credit for the change, because that's what my ego demands.
There were some other, non-website updates this week including two more podcasts:
Hot Young Cast: Quicktime - Small, Medium, Large
Amanda Bynes - Tour-De Force of Comedy: Quicktime - Small, Medium, Large
Lastly, the cast is one a promotional tour with a few more stops including:

Chicago - Thursday, March 2
7:00pm - Cast to introduce promotional screening
Hollywood Boulevard Theatre
Woodridge, IL

San Francisco - Friday, March 3
6:00pm - Cast autograph signing
Great Mall
Milpitas, CA

Portland - Saturday, March 4
3:30pm - Seventeen's "Rock the Runway"
Clackamas Town Center Mall
Portland, OR

Now, if all of this content were on the site, it would be an award-winning website for sure. As it is, it is still better than most, but not quite up to the level needed for an award winner.

Silent Hill - Official Site
A few more sections were added to the site this week, sort of. If you click on these sections, (history, set and location, audio), you get a short, interactive section but no information on the history, sets, audio, etc. It does, on the other hand, do an excellent job at setting the mood. Also, during the past week a blog was started, but so far it has only the welcoming message. I fully expect that this site is just one or two more updates away from scoring the Weekly Website Award.

Slither - Official Site
The flash site launched this week, but outside the intro, there's not much here that wasn't on the placeholder site. As far as new content is concerned, right now there's just the character bios and audio board, but there's also plenty of features marked coming soon. There are regular features like cast & crew, production notes, TV spots, and clips marked coming soon, as well as extras like Brenda Pet, Hunting Season, and Greetings from Wheelsey. I'm hopeful that by the time all the content it online, this will be an award winning site. ... After finishing the list and comparing this site to all the other sites, even with most of the content marked coming soon, this is still the best site on this weeks list and the winner of the parasitic Weekly Website Award. Hopefully the rest of the site lives up to that honor.

Sorry, Haters - Official Site
The heart of the site is the roundtable, but you can only watch the first part since the other four have spoilers. (If you've seen the movie, you can e-mail the filmmakers and they will send you a link to the other parts.)

Spider-Man 3 - Official Site
The first look at Spider-man in his black suit is online.

Ultraviolet - Official Site
Not much has changed since the flash site first launched.

V For Vendetta - Official Site
Cast and crew bios were added this week as well as information on the soundtrack.
