Tsotsi Closest to $10,000 Mark

There wasn't a single film with a per theatre average topping $10,000 this weekend with Tsotsi coming the closest with $65,000 in 7 theatres for an average of $9,326.

There were several other new limited releases to make the top ten including Our Brand is Crisis with $7,970 in one theatre, Joyeux Noel (Merry Christmas) with an average of $7,122 in six, and Women is the Future of Man with $4,763 in its lone theatre. On the other hand, Sorry, Haters struggled with just $2,207 over the weekend and $3,589 since Wednesday, also in just the one theatre.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theatre Charts alumni:

• The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada's per theatre average collapsed this weekend, but it still managed to top $2 million during the midweek and should hit $3 million by the weekend.
• Transamerica made it to $5 million during the midweek before having its best weekend of its run so far. Despite Felicity Huffman missing out on the Oscar, the film could still have enough left in it to earn $10 million.
• Capote has been showing incredible legs over the past few week and was able to reach $25 million before Sunday's Oscar broadcast. At this rate, $30 million is within reach and that's an impressive total for a film that cost just $7 million to make and never placed in the top ten.
