Da Vinci Da Stroys Competition
|
First of all, this headline represents the last of my Da Vinic Da puns, I promise. (On a side note, had the movie bombed I would have used Da Vinci Da Saster as the headline. Awful, isn't it?) Moving on... The Da Vinci Code was the only film able to earn more than $10,000 per theatre over the weekend with an incredible $77.1 million in 3,735 for a per theatre average of $20,635. That was more than double the second place film, fellow wide release Over the Hedge, which came close to making the $10,000 club with $9,475.
Other new limited release this week were led by The King with $8,927 in its lone theatre. Both Lemmings and Twelve and Holding earning just over $11,000 in total. However, the former did it in 2 theatres and the latter in 3 leading to averages of $5,655 and $3,819 respectively.
This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theatre Charts alumni:
- Keeping Up with the Steins showed a sophomore drop-off more in line with wide release than limited releases down more than 40%, but it reached $1 million over the weekend.
- Kinky Boots also made it to $1 million over the weekend, but it took 6 weeks to do so. Quite frankly, I was expecting much more from the film, but I still have hope it will have a second life on the home market.
- Art School Confidential collapsed during its second weekend of widish release falling more than 57% to under $500,000. It was still able to hit $2 million, but might not be able to make it to $3 million.
