Movie Website Updates for July 8 - July 14

July 14, 2006

It's a good week for website with what could be the last big hit of the year launching its flash site. That movie, Miami Vice, and its Official Site, is the winner of the Weekly Website Award.

Accepted - Official Site
Not much has changed on the site, but I got word that the movie will be promoted at next week's Comicon, which starts on Wednesday. There will be people dressed up as either a giant hot dog, or a turd sandwich. Ask either of these people, "Have I been accepted?" and they might give you tickets to the screening. Seats are limited, so first come, first served.

The Barnyard - Official Site
Both games were added this week, Jersey Joyride and Boy Tipping. Boy Tipping wouldn't work for me, but the Jersey Joyride was fun. Made me wish there was more than one level. One last note, it was really slow loading today, but I don't know if that's a problem on their end or mine. Quite a few sites were slow today, but not all of them. And if I understand Ted Steven's tube theory of the Internet, this means there's a clog and there's nothing I can do.

Beerfest - Official Site
The trailer is online, but you have to surf over to Maxim Online to see it. It too over 20 minutes to load, and boy it wasn't worth the wait. You could spend the whole trailer counting the cliches very the genuine laughs, and the cliches would win by a mile.

Casino Royale - Official Site
The latest blog entry is about the stunts and how the effects are being done physically instead of digitally.

Clerks 2 - Official Site
The new Red-Banner trailer is on the site. For those that don't know, Red-Banner basically means it is an R-rated trailer and is therefore not safe for work. I can't emphasize that last part enough, it is not safe for work. It is also the film's best trailer so far and does the best to sell the movie to a wider audience. The latest video blog entry is on the final mix.

Crossover - Official Site
The flash site launched this week and it has most of the usual features, (cast & crew bios and the production notes are marked coming soon), as well as four extras, (all but the first one are also marked coming soon). There are also a lot of video clips in between sections but the site is strangely silent. We'll see how it develops before rendering a final verdict.

Edmond - Official Site
Not much has changed in the past two weeks leaving George Wendt's bio the only one marked coming soon. Actually, it says, "bio here," so it's probably just an oversight.

Employee of the Month - Official Site
Just a placeholder site with no real content.

Factotum - Official Site
Just a placeholder site so far.

Finding Gracie - Official Site
The film hasn't started filming yet, so this is obviously a tentative site with not much information on the actual movie. It does mention that Carly Schroeder was cast as the title character, but that's about it.

The Groomsmen - Official Site
My browser had issues with this site, so I can't review it.

Hollywoodland - No Official Site
There's no site yet, but the trailer is online and can be found here for Quicktime and here for Windows Media. The trailer looks a lot better than the film's September release date would otherwise indicate.

House of Sand - Official Site
The flash site launched this week, but there's not much here outside the usual features.

Little Man - Official Site
On a purely technical standpoint, this is a well designed site. However, it does absolutely nothing to help sell the movie.

Material Girls - Official Site
Just the synopsis and the image gallery so far.

Miami Vice - Official Site
The flash site launched this week, and I don't think the server can handle the traffic. Halfway through exploring the site it went down. The site's back now, but it is still very slow. The server is taking a beating, and for good reason, this is a top-notch site heavy on the interactivity with plenty of video clips and information about trafficking of all kinds. Add in all the usual information, synopsis, cast & crew bios, and you have the winner of the depraved Weekly Website Award. One last note, I don't remember Miami Vice being this good. I remember it being about pastels, fast cars, women in bikinis and editing that made it feel like a music video half the time.

Mini's First Time - Official Site
Nothing new to report. It's a good sit that sells the film well, but there's not enough here to make it stand out.

My Super Ex-Girlfriend - Official Site
They've added a Be My Ex side site that helps you break up when your relationship dies.

The Oh in Ohio - Official Site
All the usual features, but not enough style to stand out.

The Prestige - No Official Site
No official site, but the trailer is online at Apple.com. This is one of two stage magician themed movies coming out this year, and as the second one, it will have to be very good to survive. Fortunately, it has the pedigree to be very good and the trailer sells it well.

Pulse - Official Site
There's a new release date for the movie, August 11th. But quite frankly, I don't believe it for a second. I won't believe any release date is final till the opening credits start rolling.

Rocky Balboa - Official Site
The site is gone and has been replaced by a re-direct to the studio's main site, but the trailer has come online and can be found here, for Quicktime Hi-Res or Here for Windows Media Hi-Res. Quite frankly, it was a lot better than I was expecting. I was expecting a total train wreck, but it looks like it could be the best sequel in the franchise.

Saw III - Official Site
Couple of notes on the site, firstly, the film will be promoted at Comicon next week and secondly, the trailer will debut in front of The Descent when it opens early in August.

Snakes on a Plane - Official Site
The trailer is now online. I just don't know what to say. When I first heard the idea for this movie I thought it was going to be a train wreck, and this trailer did very little to change my mind. It seems like they are trying to sell the movie as a serious film, which could backfire.

Waltzing Anna - Official Site
The site has all the usual features plus a behind-the-scenes video clip.

World Trade Center - Official Site
The flash site launched this week and there's as much here about the real people as there is about the movie, which is a wise decision. In addition to the regular features, (synopsis, production notes, (marked coming soon), cast & crew bios, image gallery, and the trailer), there is a in-depth intro and 25 minutes worth of interviews on the site. More interviews should be added each week.

You, Me and Dupree - Official Site
Nothing new this week, but as an award-winning site, nothing new was really needed.
