Red Doors earned top spot on the per theatre charts after starting its theatrical run with just over $35,000 in its two theatres for an average of $17,525. Hopefully this will allow the film to expand in the coming weeks. Man Push Cart was the only other film to top $10,000 as it took in $13,694 in its lone theatre.
Sherrybaby was the best of the rest of the newcomers with just under $35,000 on 5 screens for an average of $6,955; in the end this will be looked at as a busted Oscar bait. I Trust You To Kill Me was close behind with $5,888.
None of the rest of the openers really performed up to expectations with Saint of 9/11 taking in $3,680 in three theatres and Paper Dolls earned $2,623 in three.
Further down the list was Broken Bridges with a mere $134,000 in 84 theatres for an average of just $1,593.
The last new release was Rolling Family as that film only took in just $849.
This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theatre Charts alumni:
- Half Nelson crossed $1 million over the weekend and while it has peaked, it should still reach $2 million before long.
- For the first time, The Illusionist showed signs of weakness this week, falling 28% at the box office despite growing its theatre count 27%. Even so, they film hit $15 million over the weekend and is already a financial success.
