Movie Website Updates for October 14 - October 20, 2006

October 20, 2006

Strange week with very few site featuring updates, but several very strong contenders for Weekly Website Award. In the end I went with The Prestige - Official Site, but several others on this list should win awards in the coming weeks.

300 - Official Site
The flash site this week launched but while the style has been ratcheted up a few notches, there was no addition content added. There are a few new features, (cast & crew bios, image gallery, and TV spots), but they are all marked coming soon.

Conventioneers - Official Site
All of the usual features are here, but it doesn't have a very polished feel to it.

Deck the Halls - Official Site
The site was dead last week but now it has returned. This is not an improvement.

Eragon - Official Site
The full site has gone live this week, and it is quite impressive. All of the usual features are here, (some marked coming soon), and there's plenty of sound and animation to back it up. The most noteworthy feature are the animated backgrounds, of which there are six to chose from. There's also a section called Features, which is marked coming soon. Should that impress, it could be an award-winning site.

Flags of Our Fathers - Official Site
This is one of those sites that feels like an overstuffed placeholder site rather than a full site. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what causes that, but I think the lack of animation is the biggest single reason.

Flicka - Official Site
All the usual features are here, but there's not enough in terms of extras or style to make the site stand out. Also, I hate the song.

Flushed Away - Official Site
The games were added to the site, many of which are off site and require you to log in.

Freedom Writers - Official Site
Just the trailer so far.

Ghost Rider - Official Site
The placeholder site has been completely redesigned. The production blog this week deals with the the casting of Nicolas Cage. Understatement of the week, "Nic had flirted with doing comic book roles in the past..." The man has been trying to be a super hero in a movie for years now. In fact, I can't think of a single comic book movie that's been made in the past few years that he wasn't at least rumored to be in contention for.

Hot Fuzz - No Official Site
There's no official site yet, but we have trailers, two of them: Trailer 1 and Trailer 2. Unfortunately, they are teaser trailers, but you get a good feel for what the movie will be like.

Iraq in Fragments - Official Site
All the usual features are here, but the site doesn't have a very polished feel.

Jaan-E-Mann - Official Site
All of the usual feature are here with an emphasis on the music in the movie.

Marie Antoinette - Official Site
No real changes in a while meaning the clips are still AWOL.

The Prestige - Official Site
The rest of the usual features were added to the site, which was already in contention for the Weekly Website Award before these additions were put into place. This is an excellent site that sets the mood well and is filled with audio clip and movie clips, about a dozen of each. Adding in the interactive element, (the hunting of the torn segments of the journal pages), and you have a well-rounded site that really sells the film well. And while there was a lot of competition this week, it is the obvious choice for the Hocus Pocus Weekly Website Award.

Requiem - Official Site
Just the basics.

Running With Scissors - Official Site
Not much new this week, but it's an award-winning site so there's not much that needed to be added

Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause - Official Site
So far this site is more special features than regular ones, which is a good start. We have the synopsis, image gallery, and trailer with cast & crew bios and production notes marked coming soon. Extras at the moment include two games, three if you include the Write to Santa feature. However, there's also a ton of extras marked coming soon, mostly in the form of video clips and games. When those are added I am confident that this will be an award-winning site. On a side note, I like the mix of songs they have for background music, most of which make perfect sense. However, I'm a little confused was In The Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg has to do with Christmas.

Sleeping Dogs Lie - Official Site
Just the basics with a special promo as the only extra. The site works well, but doesn't stand out.

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas 3D - Official Site
There were a couple of new features added including a contest and a behind the scenes featurette.

Unconscious - Official Site
Just the basics, but I was impressed by the trailer.
