Running With Scissors ran away with the crown on the per theatre charts, earning an average of $28,264 in its 8 theatres. However, with reviews that are less than impressive, it could have serious troubles expanding.
The Nightmare Before Christmas 3D opened in second place with $3.3 million in 168 theatres for an average of $19,506.
The only other film to crack $10,000 was The Queen with $15,253 during its fourth week of release.
Don was the best of the rest of new limited releases as the film took in $800,000 in 113 for an average of $7,118 while 51 Birch Street also did reasonably with an average of $5,414 in two theatres.
Jaan-E-Maan showed typical niche market appeal with an average of $3,182.
Sleeping Dogs Lie was well back with $1,815 while truth was shown to be less marketable than fiction as Requiem managed an average of just $1,655 in its two theatres.
This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theatre Charts alumni:
- Keepign Mum couldn't maintain its strong per theatre averages as it expanded, but it still topped $1 million at the box office this weekend.
- The Queen hit $2 million during the midweek and $3 million over the weekend.
- Trailer Park Boys: The Movie just hung onto a spot in the top ten in Canada with $330,050 and now has $3,021,892 after three weeks.
These figures are in Canadian currency.
- Facing the Giants is showing strong legs as it reached $5 million over the weekend and it could have enough left in it to reach $10 million.
