Sunshine Rises on Home Market Charts

A slow week for new releases helped Little Miss Sunshine climb from third to first on the rental charts. Over the week the film earned $5.46 million for a three-week total of $20.95 million. The Devil Wears Prada slipped to second with $5.28 million while Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest rose a spot to third with $5.19 million just $30,000 ahead of Talladega Nights - The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and its weekly take of $5.16 million. The only two new releases were Snakes on a Plane in fifth with $4.91 million and sixth place The Covenant with $4.86 million.

Over on the sales chart things were a little more confusing with conflicting reports. Rentak has and The Covenant coming in first place with Snakes on a Plane behind by the merest margin. On the other hand, others report Snakes on a Plane came in first with The Covenant coming in third. Regardless, I think it is clear that Snakes on a Plane was helped by the Fanboy Effect while The Covenant will have a sequel given the go-ahead relatively shortly, (although it will likely be a direct-to-DVD affair).

Jackass - Number Two was either second or third, depending on which source is correct. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest placed fourth while The Devil Wears Prada climbed into fifth place.

The only other new release to chart was Martin - The Complete First Season
