Night at the Museum remained in first place, as it has since it opened four weeks ago, but this time it was involved in a relatively close race. The film added $14.84 million on 4391 screens in 45 markets for a total of $173.86 million. The film only had one new opening this weekend and that was in Uruguay where it opened with $38,000 on 13 screens; that may not seem like much, but it represents the fifth biggest opening ever in the market.
The Pursuit Of Happyness grew by 3% to $13.30 million on 1724 screens in 11 markets for a running tally of $32.17 million. The film opened in first place in Germany, which is no surprise given Will Smith's drawing power in the market. Over the weekend the film made $3.12 million on 512 screens and finished with nearly double its nearest competitor. However impressive that was, it was not the film's best market as it earned $3.97 million on 441 screens in Italy for a two-week total of $11.01 million while adding $3.41 million on 404 screens during its second weekend in the U.K. for a total of $10.45 million so far.
Rocky Balboa climbed into third place with $12.18 million on 1779 screens in 8 markets for a very early total of $26.03 million. It's best market by far was the U.K. where it opened in first place with $7.19 million on 405 screens, which is equivalent to $30 to $40 million opening here. The film was a little weak in its holdovers down 42% in Mexico to $915,000 on 403 screens for a two-week total of $3.37 million and it fell 56% in Spain to $1.50 million on 312 screens for a total of $5.46 million also after two weeks. However, those totals are still very strong despite the declines.
Manuale D'Amore 2: Capitoli Successivi, a.k.a. Instruction Book of Love: Capital Success, opened in its native Italy scoring a huge first place finish with $8.03 million on 590 screens. This was more than double its nearest competitor and enough for fourth place on the international charts.
Deja Vu returned to the top five with $7.38 million on 2662 screens in 42 markets for a total of $90.12 million. By this time next week, the film could have $100 million internationally, which would be a first for Denzel Washington. The film was aided by a first place debut in Australia with $1.92 million on 292 screens and a second place debut in Brazil with $650,000 on 90 screens. The film also took top spot in the Philippines with $225,000 on 70 screens and while that per screen average may not seem like much, the film still was the best opener there in for Denzel Washington's career.
