Promise Kept on Per Theater Chart

While no wide release cracked $5000 on the per theater chart, three limited released topped $10,000, two by massive margins. This was led by possible Oscar contender, Eastern Promises, which pulled in an impressive $550,000 in 15 theaters for an average of $36,473. Meanwhile, Across the Universe opened in more theaters, 23, but to a smaller average, $29,034. Finally, In the Valley of Elah managed an average of $14,840 in 9.

No other new limited release could come close to the $10,000 mark with The King of California coming the closest with $7,163. Ira and Abby was the only other film to crack $5000 with $5,277. My Brother's Wedding opened with $4,294 in one theater while December Boys averaged $3,953 in four. Great reviews couldn't save Great World of Sound as it managed just $3,065 in two theaters. Finally, Silk sunk at just $1,037 and Moving McAllister crawled out of the gate with $333.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple Per Theater Charts alumni:

  • As expected, 2 Days in Paris made it to $3 million over the weekend and at this pace it will have little difficulty reaching $4 million.
  • Ladron Que Roba a Ladron reached $3 million early last week and will also top $4 million before long.
