New releases were spread pretty evenly on the rental charts and included a new number one, Beowulf, which opened with $10.93 million. American Gangster was pushed into second place with $8.51 million for the week and $18.18 million after two while Michael Clayton placed third with $7.24 million for the week and $15.41 million so far. 30 Days of Night opened in fourth place with $6.88 million in rentals, which is just average, nothing more, nothing less. The final film in the top five was Gone, Baby, Gone with $5.99 million for the week and $22.18 million in total, which is more than it made theatrically.

There were five other new releases to chart, two that barely made the top ten, two that barely made the top 20, and the final one that barely made the top 30. The Darjeeling Limited earned 8th place with $4.66 million. Meanwhile, Death at a Funeral was one spot behind with $4.11 million, which was nearly half of what it earned during its entire theatrical run. Comanche Moon placed 19th with $2.69 million, which is strong for a TV on DVD release, while Silk was right behind it with $2.65 million. The final release to chart was Goya's Ghosts, which placed 29th with $2.34 million in rentals, which was double what it earned theatrically.
