Per Theater Chart Hopping Over Easter Weekend

There was not one, not two, not three, but six films that landed in the $10,000 club on the per theater chart over the weekend (not counting the three IMAX films that did the same). Topping the charts was the re-release of Contempt, again, which earned $13,946 in one theater, which was down less than 6% from last weekend. Planet B-Boy opened in second place with $13,889, missing first place on the per theater chart by a microscopic $57. Boarding Gate had a bit of separation between the rest of the films earning $11,440 in its one theater. On the other hand, Under the Same Moon, Love Songs, and Meet the Browns were all within a few hundred dollars of each other with per theater averages of $10,414, $10,244, and $10,011.

There were also plenty of other new releases this week, including a few that came relatively close to the $10,000 mark. Race opened with just over $800,000 in just under 100 theaters for an average of $8,357, while The Grand was right behind with an average of $8,227 in 2 theaters. The Hammer opened with a respectable average of $4,857 in 20 theaters, but should do better on the home market. Flow: For the Love of Water and Shelter were neck and neck with the former beating the latter $3,644 to $3,464. Finally, Poisoned by Polonium: Litvinenko File opened with $2,402 in one theater.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Charts alumni:

  • It took five months, but 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days finally reached $1 million. This is not a bad result for a foreign language film.
  • Under the Same Moon earned more than since its Wednesday opening, which means it hit its first three milestones.
  • Persepolis topped $4 million last week, but it was overlooked in Awards Season.
  • Juno made it all the way to $140 million, which is very likely the last milestone for the movie. It is enough to put it in 15th place for the year, just ahead of Rush Hour 3, and just below Knocked Up.
