All Quiet on the Per Theater Front

No film was able to top $10,000 on the per theater chart this past weekend. The Visitor came the closest with an average of $9,250 in 18 theaters.

This week's flock of new releases was not able to perform well with audiences, and none really came close to the $10,000 mark. Constantine's Sword was the best, but it only managed an average of $5,066, which is best described as, well, as average. Anamorph pulled in $3,120 in one theater, which would normally be considered disappointing, but somehow feels like a victory compared to most other limited releases this weekend. First Saturday in May opened in 20 theaters, which was a little much as it averaged just $2,728, while Life Before Her Eyes earned an average of $2,528 in eight. Three releases earned below the Mendoza line including Kiss the Bride at $1,762, Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? at $1,458, and Pathology at $1,179.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Shine a Light hit $3 million before the weekend, which was expected, and should hit $4 million shortly.
  • Under the Same Moon reached $10 million. (Actually it did so last week and somehow slipped below my radar.)
