Doing what it couldn't do during its theatrical run, Juno finished first during its opening week on the rental charts. It led all movies with $8.38 million in rentals. Fellow new release, Aliens vs. Predator - Requiem, placed second with $7.67 million. There Will Be Blood held on well but was pushed to third with $7.06 million for the week and $15.59 million after two. Alvin and the Chipmunks was the only other holdover in the top five as it added $5.90 million to its running tally, to reach $21.85 million after three weeks. Before the Devil Knows You're Dead earned fifth place, which was much better than its performance on the sales chart, as it managed $5.73 million in rentals. This feels like a clear case of "try before you buy" and bodes well for its long term chances on the home market.

In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale landed in seventh place on the rental chat with $5.55 million in opening week rentals. That was more than it made theatrically, but it placed lower than it did on the sales chart, which seems to indicate the Fanboy Effect. This brings up the obvious question: Dr. Uwe Boll has fans? The final new release to chart was Lars and the Real Girl, which landed in 15th place with $3.70 million in rentals.
