Dark Knight Earns Huge $18.489 Million at Midnight Screenings

July 18, 2008

The Dark Knight earned an incredible $18,489,000 in 12.01am screenings last night to set the ball rolling on what is certain to be a massive opening weekend. The movie previewed in 3,040 theaters, and the numbers are for the 12.01am screenings only -- they do not include data from the 3am and 6am shows that many theaters had added to their schedules

This performance sets a new record for previews, topping the $16,900,000 earned by Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith back in 2005. Sith went on to earn $50 million on its opening day. If Dark Knight continues at this pace, it would come close to $55 million today, which would set it up for a weekend around $130 million - $140 million.
