Summer Slumps on the Per Theater Chart

Summer is officially over as no movie earned more than $10,000 on the per theater charts. The Girl Cut in Two and Elegy came close with averages of $9,329 and $9,090 respectively.

The rest of the new releases were well back with Vicky Cristina Barcelona opening with $5,427, however, it was playing in nearly 700 screens, which allowed it to open in the top ten. Bachna Ae Haseeno's opening average of $4,541 was good for its niche market, but not great. Likewise, Fly Me to the Moon earned an average of $4,205, which is good considering the size of its release, but not great. Finally, Henry Poole Is Here missed the Mendoza line earning an average of $1,528 in just over 500 theater.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Charts alumni:

  • Before the Rains arrived at $1 million just before the weekend, but that's as far as it will go.
  • Fly Me to the Moon also made it to $1 million, but it did it over its opening weekend.
  • Tell No One hit $3 million just over the weekend, and it shouldn't have any trouble getting to $4 million.
  • Vicky Cristina Barcelona also made it to $3 million, but it did it over its opening weekend.
  • Brideshead Revisited topped $4 million over the weekend and it not that far away from $5 million. However, it will likely start shedding theaters quickly and that would make getting to $10 million very difficult.
