The Duchess was a fashionable choice for moviegoers over the weekend, as it made just under $200,000 in just 7 theaters for an average of $27,204, which was the clear winner. The reviews were not great, but the film still has a shot at being nominated for several technical Oscars. Appaloosa was the biggest limited release of the week, pulling in just shy of $250,000 in 14 theaters to give it an impressive average of $17,775. Next up was August Evening with $11,033, while the final film to top $10,000 on the per theater chart was Walking on Dead Fish with $10,524 in one theater.
Way back was Battle in Seattle, which led the best of the rest of the new releases with an average of $5,863 in 8 theaters, which is still respectable. A Thousand Years of Good Prayers was right behind with $10,000 in 2 theaters for an average of $5,161. On the other hand, Elite Squad struggled with just $3,604 in one theater, while Hounddog bombed with just $1,249, which is well below the Mendoza line.
This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple Per Theater Chart alumni:
