Movie Website Reviews for the Weekend of January 23rd, 2009

January 25, 2009

Short list with only four films, only three of which have actual websites. There were only two sites that rated above average, and only one site, Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans's Official Site that was in contention for the Weekly Website Award.

Inkheart - Official Site
All of the usual features are here, plus extras like the music video Eliza Bennett. (There is also a section called Be the Story, but nothing loads when I click that. It creates a new tab, but that's it. The site has enough sound and animation to not seem boring, but not enough to truly stand out.

Killshot - No Official Site
Nothing to review.

Outlander - Official Site
Weinstein Co. site. Just the synopsis and the trailer. There's U.K. site to check out, but it has not additional content, at least not yet, while there is also a Blog to read.

Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans - Official Site
All of the usual features are here, mostly. There's the synopsis, image gallery, trailer; however, there's only cast and crew list, not bios. There are character bios for five characters. Extras include a trio of games starting with Catacombs Maze, but it is terrible. The reaction time for the controls is awful, which makes it very hard to avoid the failing explosive rocks (I don't know what they are). And at if there is a pit in a corner, it is nearly impossible to jump over. Guard the Castle is a much better game, but Night Partrol is the best. This is strange, because usual action games are the hardest to get right. As for style, the site is one long image you scroll over and look for content, which is better than just a traditional menu (they have that as well). But the scrolling speed it too slow to be effective. Even so, it is the best of this week's selection, and the winner of the lycanthropic Weekly Website Award.
