Awards Season - Slumdog Continues its Streak

January 26, 2009

The latest Awards Season ceremony was held last night by the Screen Actors Guild, and yet again Slumdog Millionaire came out a winner. However, it was not the only winner.

The categories and winners are...

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A MALE ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A MALE ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A CAST IN A MOTION PICTURE

Notes and Reactions...

  • No film earned more than one award, although several went into the night with multiple nominations.
  • Slumdog Millionaire beat out Doubt, which had four individual nominations. This could be seen as an upset, but more importantly, it has to be seen as a good omen going forward for the Awards Season champion so far.
  • Heath Ledger's chances for an Oscar win for playing The Joker in The Dark Knight have increased dramatically over the past week. I would say he is a 90% lock to win at this point.
  • On the other hand, Sean Penn winning over Mickey Rourke muddles the water for Best Lead Actor Oscar.
  • The same is true for Meryl Streep win over Kate Winslet
  • Like she did at the Golden Globes awards, Kate Winslet walked away a winner. This means she's one step closer to finally winner an Oscar after five previous nominations.
