The top films on the international scene were published on Wednesday and can be found here.
Star Trek slipped to third place on the international chart with $11.34 million on 5069 screens in 56 markets for a total of $87.68 million. It has now made more internationally than the previous film made worldwide. The film's best market was the U.K. where it has made $24.37 million, including $2.60 million on 474 screens this past weekend. As for future releases, it opens in Japan this weekend, while it has yet to open in Mexico, India, and other markets.
- Terminator Salvation opened in fourth place with $8.29 million on 732 screens in 2 markets over the weekend for a total of $9.66 million, all but a rounding error coming from its first place opening in South Korea. The film expands worldwide this coming weekend, and should climb the charts then.
- Wolverine continues its downward slide, but it has already made more than enough money to be profitable, so it matters little at this point. Over the weekend it added $7.41 million on 5591 screens in 66 markets for a total of $158.93 million internationally and $322.25 million worldwide. The only million dollar market of the weekend was France where it placed sixth with $1.12 million on 509 screens, but that was for the full week. After nearly a month of release, the film has pulled in $15.20 million in that one market. Next up for the film is Mexico this weekend, while it has yet to open in Japan.
- Hannah Montana the Movie continues to plug away adding $3.57 million on 2175 screens in 23 markets for a total of $31.44 million. The film opened in second place in Mexico with $858,000 on 320 screens, while it added $1.00 million on 370 screens in Spain for a total of $7.50 million after three weeks of release there.
- No new markets left 17 Again in seventh place with $3.05 million on 2109 screens in 39 markets for a total of $54.36 million. The film has made its debut in most major markets, but it is already a box office success, so everything it makes from now on is profit.
- April Bride remained in second place in Japan with $2.72 million on 310 screens over the weekend, which was enough for eighth place internationally while giving the film a total of $18.05 million after three weeks of release.
- The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo added $2.57 million on 752 screens in 7 markets for a total of $43.98 million internationally. The film remained strong in France with $2.29 million on 554 screens over the weekend for a total of $5.97 million after two. Meanwhile, it opened in Belgium in seventh place with $117,000 on 42 screens over the weekend and $149,000 in total.
- Broken Embraces was next with $2.43 million on 339 screens in 4 markets for a total of $7.90 million. This includes a third place, $2.44 million opening on 288 screens in France, but that was for the full week.
That's it for the multi-million dollar movies, but that's hardly a large list, so I'm going to stretch it out for a couple more releases.
- There was a pretty big drop-off between tenth and eleventh place, with My Bloody Valentine 3D taking the latter with just $1.71 million on 388 screens in 12 markets for a total of $34.56 million. The film opened in Germany, but struggled with $637,000 while landing in fifth place.
- Coraline has not exactly caught fire internationally, but its run isn't over yet. This past weekend it added $1.69 million on 1215 screens in 18 markets for a total of $21.09 million. It has yet to open in France, Germany, Italy, Australia, and other markets, but it will likely have to wait till the home market to show a profit.
- Confessions Of A Shopaholic returned to the charts in 13th place with $1.68 million on 380 screens in 17 markets for a total of $59.36 million internationally, while it now has $103.62 million worldwide. It was aided by a fifth place, $1.71 million opening on 288 screens in France, but that was for the full week.
