No One to Carry the Per Theater Chart

Not a single film reached the $10,000 mark on the per theater chart this weekend. In fact, there weren't even any films that came close. The best movie overall was The September Issue with an average of just $7,303, which was one fifth of its opening per theater average. Granted it did triple its theater count this past weekend, so a decline in its per theater average was expected, but it also saw its overall box office fall by a third. The best new release of the week was All About Steve, which was only halfway there at $4,994.

The only new limited release we have numbers for is Carriers, which bombed with just $72,000 in 100 theaters for an average of $717.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Paper Heart hit the first, and last, major milestone of its run. However, while it won't get much past $1 million, this is still better than a lot of similar releases manage.
  • In the Loop reached $2 million, if you include Monday. It has a very, very slim chance at $3 million, but this is more than likely the last time it will appear on this list.
