Smaller, independent films dominated the top Ten Per Theatre Average chart this week, taking the first seven spots.
In top spot was In America. The story of Irish immigrants earned over $200,000 in just 11 theatres for and average of $18,657.
As we move down the list we see a lot of foreign films in the mix. The Triplets of Belleville, a French film, just missed first place with $18,013 per theatre. The Indian film Kal Ho Naa Ho finished third with $14,581. And in its second week was the French-Canadian film The Barbarian Invasions, which took $8,781 per theatre. Good enough for seventh place.
Also earning more than $10,000 per theatre were 21 Grams ($13,539 for its second weekend), My Architect ($14,421in its third weekend) andand the opening of The Cooler with $11,725.
The Station Agent continues to do well as it topped $3 million, twice what Miramax paid for the distribution rights.
