DVD Rentals - G.I.Joe Takes Top Spot
|
There were five new releases top reach the top 30 of the rental charts, including the top two rentals. G.I.Joe - The Rise of Cobra generated roughly 28% more rentals than The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. This is obviously much closer than they were theatrically.
The rest of the top five were holdovers starting with Ice Age - Dawn of the Dinosaurs, which was just ahead of Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen. Meanwhile, Orphan rounded out the top five.
Aliens in the Attic just missed the top five, as it did on the sales chart, while I Love You, Beth Cooper opened in eighth place, which was much better than it did on the sales chart. Hardwired opened in 27th place, which is not bad for a direct-to-DVD release.
Total rentals were rose 4.7% for the week to reach $144.5 million, according to Home Media Magazine, which was 15.8% higher than the same week last year.
This is the fourth week in the past five where it has managed double-digit increases from last year.
In total, rentals have rose 15 of the past 16 weeks.
