There were two movies that cracked the $100 million level on this week's international chart, including the new number one film, The Twilight Saga - New Moon, which opened with $124.22 million on 6,578 screens in 24 markets over the weekend for a total opening of $136.01 million. Its best opening came in the U.K. where it pulled in $19.38 million on 497 screens, while it also cracked $10 million in a number of major markets, some of which reached the mark if you include midweek numbers. In France, it made $17 million on 751 screens, which was the ninth best American release in that market. In Spain, the film made $15.16 million on 634 screens, which includes the third best Wednesday opening in that market. Australia and Italy had nearly identical openings with the former pulling in $14.85 million on 530 screens and the latter earning $14.34 million. Brazil was also impressive with $11.22 million on 411 screens.

2012 was pushed to second place, but it still managed to pull in more than $100 million over the weekend. With $107.51 million on 13,766 screens in 79 markets for a total of $350.46 million internationally and $458.59 million worldwide. It was aided by its first place, $7.03 million opening on 610 screens in Japan, which is a good opening, but not a great opening. It held on to first place in Germany with $8.37 million on 766 screens over the weekend for a total of $24.04 million after two. In Russia, it has made $28.87 million after two weeks of releases, including $7.02 million on 840 screens this past weekend, but that was 57% lower than its opening.

Disney's A Christmas Carol grew by nearly 20%, but still fell to third place with $20.73 million on 4,901 screens in 40 markets for a total of $62.94 million internationally. This week, it opened in third place in Russia with $3.84 million on 344 screens, while it added $3.67 million on 606 screens during its third weekend in the U.K. for a total of $14.19 million there. This is actually better than it is performing here, if you take into account the relative size of the two markets.

Michael Jackson's This Is It saw its weekend haul nearly sliced in half with $5.71 million on 3,093 screens in 59 markets for a total of $168.71 million internationally and $238.97 million worldwide. It remained in second place in Japan, down just 1% to $2.99 million on 314 screens for a total of $40.44 million after four weeks of release.

Kurbaan opened in fifth place with $3.30 million on 1,298 screens in 16 markets over the weekend and $3.52 million in total. It's rare for an Indian film to open in the top five on the international chart, but this is the second such release recently, as Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani managed the same feat just a couple weeks ago.
