Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs led all new releases to grab top spot on the DVD sales chart for the week ending January 10 with 1.10 million units and $19.90 million in consumer spending at retail.
The Hangover was well back in second place with 364,000 units / $6.96 million for the week and 6.99 million units / $132.36 million after four weeks of release.
The Final Destination opened in third place with 295,000 units and $5.02 million in spending.
This was less than half Final Destination 3's opening week sales.
Blu-ray sales did take a lot out of the film's DVD volume, but it was still weaker than expected.
Paranormal Activity slipped to fourth with an additional 196,000 units to lift its totals to 570,000 units and $9.44 million.
Inglourious Basterds returned to the top five with 147,000 units / $2.60 million for the week and 2.63 million units / $47.80 million in total.
The only other new release to chart was Chuck: The Complete Second Season, which placed tenth with 100,000 units / $3.31 million.
Over on High Definition, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs also led the way with an estimated 200,000 units while The Hangover was right behind with just under 150,000 units. Meanwhile, The Final Destination opened close behind with 135,000 units. Overall Blu-ray sales were down to $22.42 million according Home Media Magazine's estimates, but this has a lot to do with the number one film being a kids movie.
This was still 19.9% higher than last year, but that too is a lower year-to-year growth than we're used to seeing.
